Cambridge Progression Test

BMIS Students take up Cambridge Progression Tests at the end of the year, from Gr 2 on wards, that are marked in school.Cambridge Primary Progression Tests provide valid internal assessment of knowledge, skills and understanding in English, Mathematics and Science.

The tests that includes are:

  • Enable learning to be assessed each year
  • Provide detailed information about the performance of each learner
  • Enable teachers to give structured feedback to learners and parents
  • Enable teachers to compare strengths and weaknesses of individuals and groups
  • Are marked by teachers at the school
  • Come with clear guidance, standards and mark schemes

Cambridge Secondary Checkpoint Exam

BMIS students take up Cambridge Secondary Checkpoint at the end of the Lower Secondary programme. Tests are available in English, English as a second language, mathematics and science, and give valuable feedback on learners strengths and weaknesses before they progress to the next stage of education. The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving schools detailed information and parents extra trust in the feedback they receive.

IGCSE Examinations

BMIS holds Cambridge IGCSE examination series twice a year, in March and June. Results are issued in May and August, respectively.

Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment. This broadens opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, particularly when their first language is not English. In many subjects there is a choice between core and extended curricula, making Cambridge IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities. Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade.

Cambridge IGCSE is widely recognized by higher education institutions and employers around the world as evidence of academic achievement.

AS and A level Examinations

BMIS holds Cambridge International AS & A Level examination series twice a year, in March and June. Results are issued in May and August, respectively.

Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year.

Assessment options:

BMIS learners can choose from a range of assessment options to gain Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications:

  • Take the Cambridge International AS Level only. The syllabus content is half a Cambridge International A Level.
  • Take a ‘staged’ assessment route – take the Cambridge International AS Level in one examination series and complete the final Cambridge International A Level at a subsequent series. AS Level marks can be carried forward to a full A Level twice within a 13 month period.*
  • Take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in the same examination session, usually at the end of the course. The staged assessment route is not possible in all subjects.

The outcomes awarded for Cambridge International AS Level language syllabuses cannot be carried forward to Cambridge International A Level.

International Benchmark Tests (IBT)

BMIS students take up IBT exams from Gr 3 onwards. The International Benchmark Test (IBT) is an internationally administered program of assessments with tests appropriate for grades 3 to 10 in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science. The IBT is one of many high-quality educational assessments developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), a world leader in educational research, assessment and reporting. Tests are updated each year with new and stimulating content that has been developed by an experienced team of assessment professionals.

The IBT allows schools to compare student performance internationally, between grades and overtime. Reports provide schools with detailed information about a student’s strengths and areas for improvement in all subjects. The IBT is a high quality skill-based assessment not linked to any national curriculum. This allows students from all countries to be compared fairly.
